2021 Mitsubishi Outlander
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How do I know you are not one of those bait-and-switch locksmiths?

The pattern is predictable: low number on the phone, big number once you're stuck and they've already done the work. It happens constantly and the 2021 Outlander is exactly the kind of job that attracts it, because owners know a smart key replacement sounds expensive and they're relieved when someone quotes low.

Q: Will the replacement smart key work exactly like the original factory fob?

Yes. When a replacement fob is properly programmed to your 2021 Outlander, it registers with the vehicle security system the same way the original did. The start button sees it, the door handles respond to touch, and all four buttons function as they should. We test every single one on site before we consider the job done.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2021 Outlander. Can I program it myself?

No. There is no button sequence or ignition-turn trick that works for a smart key on this vehicle. Registration requires a diagnostic programmer connected to the OBD port to enroll the new fob with the vehicle security system. The fob you bought online is just a shell until that step happens. Bring it to us and we can program it, assuming it's a compatible unit. If it isn't, we carry the right fob for your Outlander.

Q: I lost both keys to my 2021 Outlander. Is an all-keys-lost situation something you can handle, or do I have to go to the dealer?

We handle all-keys-lost on the 2021 Outlander. It's a more involved job than adding a spare when you still have a working key, because the system has to be reset through the diagnostic port before new fobs can be enrolled. That process has a timed sequence built in, so it takes longer than a simple add-a-key. Once the reset completes, we register the new fob and verify all functions on the spot.

2021 Mitsubishi Outlander Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out near Pacific View, a driver pulled into a gas station and felt something wrong when he went to pull his key out of his jacket.

The fob had taken a hit at some point, probably dropped on pavement, and the casing had a hairline crack near the battery door. He wasn't sure if the key was still reading or not. The car had started fine that morning, but now the door handles weren't responding to touch and the fob felt loose in his hand.

I met him at the pump.

I popped the case open and the CR2032 had shifted just enough to break contact on one side. The crack in the shell had let the battery seat come loose over time. Reseated the battery, pressed the case back together firmly, and ran through all four buttons standing next to his Outlander. Lock, unlock, and both of the remaining buttons, confirmed. Then I walked both door handles for touch response and had him use the start button from inside. Everything came back.

He'd been ready to call a dealer and wait. He didn't need that. He needed someone to show up and actually look at it.

Are you licensed and insured to work on Mitsubishi vehicles?▼

Yes. EZ Car Keyz holds a California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services license, LCO#6792, and carries full liability insurance. For a 2021 Outlander smart key, that matters more than it sounds. Programming a replacement fob on this vehicle requires professional diagnostic equipment connected through the OBD port to register the new key with the vehicle security system.
