Got a call from someone at a venue lot off Thompson Boulevard in Ventura. She had a catering van boxed in behind her 2005 Titan and an event loading in two hours. The truck would not start. She turned the key and got nothing but the blinking security light on the dash, that little car-with-a-key icon that means the NATS immobilizer is not seeing the transponder.
I got there in about 25 minutes. Used my NSN14 Lishi to get the door open, then took a look at the remote head key. The CR1620 was dead, which killed the lock and unlock buttons, but a dead battery alone should not stop the engine from cranking. The NATS transponder is passive, powered by the antenna ring around the ignition cylinder. So something else was off.
I connected through the OBD port and pulled the BCM. The key registration had a fault. Reprogrammed the CWTWB1U751 remote head key, dropped in a fresh CR1620, and tested ignition, lock, unlock, panic. Everything came back clean. Hands-on time was about 20 minutes.
She moved the Titan out of the loading zone, the catering van got through, and the event stayed on schedule. The whole thing cost her a fraction of what the dealer quoted over the phone, and she never had to leave the parking lot.
