2007 Nissan Titan
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: What exactly is a remote head key and why can't I just copy it at the hardware store?

A remote head key is one piece that does two separate jobs. The metal blade goes in the ignition and the fob buttons handle remote lock and unlock. They're integrated into a single unit instead of a separate key and separate fob. The reason a hardware store copy won't work is that the key has a transponder chip embedded in the head. That chip has to be recognized by the vehicle's immobilizer before the engine will run.

Q: What equipment do you use to program Nissan keys?

Professional diagnostic tools built for immobilizer work. For a 2007 Titan this isn't a situation that needs server-based access or dealer-level authentication, so the job can be done with the right standalone programming equipment and the correct blank. We carry the blanks and batteries stocked in the van so there's no waiting on an order. Newer Nissans do get more complicated, and some locksmiths skip that work because the software licensing and security data access costs are real.

Q: My Titan started fine this morning but now it cranks and won't start. Could it be the key?

It can be, but don't assume that first. On these trucks, a crank-no-start that wasn't there yesterday is more likely a fuel or ignition issue than a key failure. A key-related no-start usually shows up as a security warning on the dash or a situation where the truck never had a problem until a new or unprogrammed key was used.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2007 Titan. Can I program it myself?

For the remote functions only, some Nissan trucks from this era have an onboard procedure that lets you cycle through a registration sequence using the door lock and ignition. Whether it works depends on the exact setup and how many keys are already in the system. The transponder chip side is a separate matter and requires programming equipment.

2007 Nissan Titan Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was finishing up in East Ventura when she texted. Pilates instructor on a break between classes, needed a spare key for her 2007 Titan before her afternoon session started. She already had her VIN ready and texted it to me before I even left the previous job. That almost never happens, and it made a real difference.

Because she had a working key with her, I didn't need to decode the lock or do an all-keys-lost procedure. I used that working key to pull what I needed, had the blank prepped on the drive over, and went straight to cutting and programming when I arrived. She watched from the studio doorway while I worked on the hood of my van.

When I handed her the finished spare, she tested every button, tried it in the ignition, locked and unlocked from across the parking lot. It all worked. She made it back inside before her next class started.

The dealer had told her to expect a wait and come back another day. That's a common story with these trucks. I was in and out in under twenty minutes, right there in the parking lot.

Nissan Titan Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

How do I spot a fake locksmith before I get ripped off?▼

A few things to watch for. If they won't give you a real estimate for your specific vehicle over the phone, that's a problem. If they quote you a rock-bottom service call fee and say they'll sort out the price when they arrive, walk away. That's a bait and switch and it happens constantly in this industry. Google the business name before you call back. No real address, no reviews, a generic stock photo listing, those are all signs.
