Yes, broken key extraction is a standard job. I use specialized extraction tools to pull the broken piece out of the ignition cylinder without tearing up the internals. The risk with Titan ignitions is the same as most trucks: if the key snapped under load, meaning someone forced it while the steering column was locked, the wafers inside the cylinder can get dinged up. The piece can come out clean and the cylinder might still need attention soon after.

Once the fragment is out, I can cut a new key blade from the extracted piece or pull the cut from the lock directly, then pair the new smart key fob on site. One trip, done.

What exactly is a smart key and how does my 2022 Titan use one?

Your Titan's smart key is a fob that talks wirelessly to the truck's immobilizer. It handles the door locks, carries the emergency blade inside it for situations where the electronics aren't cooperating, and communicates with the vehicle's security system to authorize the engine. The fob has three buttons, and the factory part number on yours is printed on the fob itself if you need to reference it when ordering a spare.

If the blade snaps off but the electronics inside the fob are still intact, I can often move the internals into a new shell and save you the cost of a full replacement and re-registration. If the whole fob is gone or the electronics are dead, I cut a new blade and register the new fob to the truck on site using a diagnostic tool.

My Titan says it can't detect the key. Where do I start?

Start with the CR2032 in the fob. That battery is the most common reason the truck throws a key-not-detected warning, and it can go low without the fob giving you any obvious sign first. Pop the case, check the battery contacts for any corrosion or a slight bend that's keeping the cell from seating flush, and swap in a fresh CR2032.

If you've already done that and the truck still won't recognize the fob, try holding the fob body directly against the start button area while pressing the brake. The Titan has a backup coupling point there for exactly this situation.

Fresh battery, clean contacts, and the backup method don't fix it, then you're likely looking at the fob itself, the antenna, or a vehicle battery that's dropped low enough to affect the whole system. A weak 12-volt battery in the truck can cause weird immobilizer behavior that looks like a fob problem. That's when you call me.

I bought a replacement fob online. Can you just program it, or is there more to it?

The 2022 Titan uses a smart key system that requires diagnostic equipment to register any fob to the truck. There's no owner-accessible button sequence or ignition trick. Every fob, whether it's from the dealer or an aftermarket source, has to be paired through the OBD port using a programmer that can speak to the immobilizer.

The thing to verify before you order is that the replacement fob matches the factory FCC ID on your original fob. If it doesn't match, it may not be compatible with your truck's system. When I show up, I bring the programmer and handle the pairing on site. If the fob you bought is the right one, we're in business. If it's not, I carry stock.

Can I add a second key to my Titan without losing my existing one?
