His groceries were in the bed of his 2009 Titan, covered with a tonneau but sitting in July sun near Pacific View Mall in Ventura. Frozen stuff had maybe 30 minutes.
He hit the unlock button and got nothing. Tried the key blade in the door, got in, but the truck would not start. Just the NATS security light blinking on the dash, steady and stubborn. He called the dealer. Earliest appointment was the next afternoon. Then he called me.
I was about 15 minutes out. When I got there, I popped the remote head open on his tailgate. The CR1620 was dead, completely flat, and the internal transponder antenna contact had a film of green corrosion on it. That explained why even the mechanical key insertion with the backup start procedure was not getting through to the NATS5 system. The 4D60 chip needs a clean coupling to the ring antenna around the ignition cylinder, and corrosion kills that signal fast.
I set up a new CWTWB1U751 remote-head key, cut the NSN14 blade to match his door, and programmed through the OBD port with the IM608. Pin code pulled from the BCM, transponder registered to the NATS, remote functions synced. Tested lock, unlock, panic, and start. Walked the remote range out past 30 feet.
From his phone call to engine running was 38 minutes. The dealer would have been next-day and a lot more money. Groceries survived.
