It was July, College Area in Ventura, and the guy had a bed full of groceries. Frozen stuff. He'd walked out of the store, hit the fob, nothing happened. Tried it again standing right next to the door. Nothing. He'd driven the Titan to the store just fine, but now the remote was completely dead and he was standing in a parking lot watching the clock on his ice cream.

I was there in under fifteen minutes. Got the door open, took a look at the fob. The CR1620 was shot, but swapping the battery didn't bring it back. The internal contact had a layer of corrosion on it, the kind that builds up slowly over years until one hot afternoon it just gives up entirely. The fob shell itself had a hairline crack along the seam where the battery door meets the case, and moisture had gotten in at some point.
I replaced the whole fob, programmed it through the OBD port, and walked every function: lock, unlock, the third button, and remote range out to a reasonable distance in an open lot.
His frozen food made it home. He mentioned the dealer quote when I was wrapping up, kind of in passing. I just nodded. The number wasn't close.
