Out near Emma Wood State Beach in Ventura, a guy with a 2017 Titan had his key snap right in the ignition cylinder early one morning. Half the blade stuck inside, the other half sitting in his palm. He didn't want to force anything and make it worse.
I got there and used my DAT17 Lishi to extract the broken piece without chewing up the wafers. Pulled it clean. Then I decoded the lock from the cylinder readings and cut a fresh emergency insert blade on site.
His truck runs the Intelligent Key system with the KR5S180144014 fob, part number 285E3-3JA2A. The fob itself was fine, still in his pocket, still talking to the BCM. The issue was only the physical blade. I cut the new one, confirmed it turned the backup cylinder in the steering column smoothly, and tested the full smart key loop: proximity detection on all four door handles, push-button start, and every remote button.
The whole thing took maybe 40 minutes from when I pulled up.
He had already called the dealer. They told him tow it in, leave it, and expect a few business days. He made one more call instead. A snapped key at the beach feels like a disaster, but on the Titan platform it is one of the simpler jobs I run. New blade, same fob, back on the road.
