2018 Nissan Titan
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: Can you wipe out lost or stolen keys so they can't start my Titan anymore?

Yes, and this matters a lot if the keys were stolen rather than just misplaced. When we do a key programming job on the Titan, the process involves clearing out all previously registered fobs from the immobilizer and then enrolling only the keys you physically have in hand. When that's done, any key that was lost or stolen is erased. It won't communicate with the vehicle's security system, it won't start the truck.

Q: Does my 2018 Titan smart key have a hidden emergency blade inside it?

It does. There's a small release button on the fob, press it and slide the metal blade out. That blade will get you into the driver's door mechanically even with a completely dead fob battery. The door cylinder on the Titan is behind a small cover on the door handle, so you'll need to pop that off first. It's not hidden, just covered. Once you're inside, you can still start the truck.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online for my 2018 Titan. Can I program it myself?

No. The Titan's Intelligent Key system doesn't have a DIY add-a-key sequence you can run from the driver's seat. There's no ignition-turn trick, no button combination. Registering a new fob to this truck requires a diagnostic tool connected at the OBD port to communicate with the immobilizer and enroll the new key. That said, buying a fob online isn't necessarily a problem. If the replacement fob matches your vehicle, I can program it when I come out.

Q: My Titan's push-button start is acting up, sometimes it works and sometimes it doesn't. Is the fob failing?

Maybe, but start with the CR2032 battery in the fob before assuming anything bigger is wrong. A low battery produces exactly this kind of inconsistent behavior: works fine in the morning, hesitates in the afternoon, acts dead by evening. It's not a linear failure, which is why it confuses people. If a fresh CR2032 doesn't fix it, the next thing to look at is whether the issue is position-dependent.

2018 Nissan Titan Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a woman parked in the Poinsettia neighborhood in Ventura, outside a prenatal clinic.

She needed a spare Intelligent Key made for her 2018 Titan and she told me right off the bat she'd already looked up my license number before dialing. Her previous locksmith, a different guy, had handed her a receipt with no company name and a phone number that went nowhere. She wasn't doing that again.

I respect that. I showed up in the van with the company name on the side, handed her my card, and walked her through what I was doing the whole time.

The Titan is a bigger platform than a Camry or an Altima, and the programming side on this system requires proper diagnostic access to register a new fob to the vehicle. I connected at the OBD port, went through the immobilizer registration sequence, confirmed the new key was enrolled, and then verified every button on the fob before I packed up. Lock, unlock, the remaining two functions, all tested.

She asked me to also confirm her original key still worked after the process. It did. That's always worth checking out loud so the owner sees it happen.

She paid a fraction of what the dealer had quoted her. Got a real receipt with a real license number, a real callback number, and I was gone in under an hour. She mentioned she felt better going into her third trimester knowing the spare was handled.

That's the kind of job that sticks with you.

Nissan Titan Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

What is the cheapest way to handle all-keys-lost on my 2018 Nissan Titan?▼

Skip the tow and the dealer wait. All-keys-lost on the Titan requires a full immobilizer reset and re-registration of new keys through the diagnostic port. A dealer will typically schedule that job out, possibly not same-day, and the quote usually comes in high before you even factor in towing a vehicle that won't start.
