Saturday night near Omer Rains Bike Trail in Ventura, a group that had been at a Korean BBQ spot came out to a 2015 Nissan Titan that would not start. The key turned in the ignition, the dash lit up, and the NATS security indicator just blinked at them. Nobody in the group knew about the backup procedure, so they figured the truck was done until Monday.
They called me around 10 PM just to ask if anything could even be done that late. I was 15 minutes out.
Their remote head key, the CWTWB1U751 three-button, had a CR1620 that was basically flat. No remote range at all, and the 46 chip was not getting a clean read through the NATS antenna ring around the ignition cylinder. I swapped the battery, tested the transponder response, and reprogrammed the key through the OBD port using the NATS pin from the BCM. Remote range came back full strength, and the engine turned over on the first try.
The whole thing took about 25 minutes. They drove home that same night. A Nissan dealer would have had them waiting until Monday morning, then sitting in a service lane for half the day. I had the right NSN14 blank and 46 chip already stocked in the van. A Saturday night call gets the same result as a Tuesday morning one when everything is on hand.
