2015 Nissan Titan
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How long will a replacement key for my 2015 Titan last?

A properly cut and programmed replacement should last as long as your original key did. The programming doesn't degrade. What does wear out over time is the battery and the fob shell. The CR1620 in the Titan remote head is a smaller cell and owners on Titan forums report it drains faster than expected, especially if the fob gets left in a hot truck cab repeatedly. Check the battery contacts when you swap cells.

Q: What if my new key stops working a few weeks after you program it?

Call me. Every key I make is covered. I come back and sort it out. The most common post-programming complaint I hear on Titan remote-head-keys isn't actually a programming issue, it's a battery seating issue.

Q: Can I program a second key for my 2015 Titan myself at home?

The 2015 Titan does have an onboard add-a-key procedure that works if you already have one working programmed key in hand. It's a timed sequence done through the door lock and ignition, and it's documented in owner forums. The catch is that it only works when you have a functional key to start the process.

Q: My Titan remote suddenly has almost no range. Locks and unlocks but only from two feet away. What's going on?

Usually a weak CR1620, but not always dead, just low. A cell at half charge will still trigger the remote at close range while the signal is too weak to reach the truck from across a parking lot. Swap the battery first. If a fresh cell doesn't fix it, check whether the issue follows the fob or stays with the truck. Borrow a known-good fob if you can.

2015 Nissan Titan Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I was already running jobs in Ventura on a Saturday night when the call came in. Group of friends near Serra Cross/Grant Park, late, standing next to a 2015 Titan that they couldn't get into with the remote. The fob wasn't responding and nobody had tried the door lock cylinder because they assumed the whole system was down.

When I got there, it took about two minutes to figure out the remote was dead but the key itself was fine. The truck would turn over no problem. The fob just wasn't communicating.

I popped the battery cover, pulled the CR1620, and it was the original. Swollen on one edge. Not enough to look obviously bad, but enough to sit crooked against the contact. Dropped in a fresh cell from my kit, seated it correctly, and the remote came back on the first press. Lock, unlock, both confirmed. Then I reprogrammed the fob at the truck to make sure it was holding a clean registration, which takes only a few minutes on the Titan with the right tool.

They'd been one thin battery away from driving home that whole time.

The dealer angle barely came up. One of them mentioned they'd thought about waiting until Monday and calling the dealership. I just nodded. We were already done.

Nissan Titan Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Do you use OEM or aftermarket keys on Nissan vehicles?▼

For the 2015 Titan remote-head-key, I use OEM-spec blanks that are verified to match the factory fob in terms of frequency, battery type, and transponder compatibility. Aftermarket fobs in this price range vary a lot. Some register fine, some cause intermittent remote failures weeks later because the internal components don't hold up to heat cycles inside a truck cab. Nissan dealers will often refuse to program third-party fobs outright, which leaves you stuck if the cheap blank doesn't work.
