I got a call at 6:30 in the morning from a pilot sitting in a parking lot near Moorpark. He had a 2002 Porsche 911 and a preflight check he couldn't skip. The flip key remote was dead, the doors weren't responding, and the car wasn't going anywhere.

The fob battery itself was also low, which compounded things. Two problems that looked like one.
Swapped the fob battery, re-registered the key through the diagnostic port, and walked every function: lock, unlock, flip blade in the ignition, remote operation. All of it.
He was heading toward the hangar by 7:15. The dealer didn't even open until 8:00, and a Porsche dealer key job on a car like this would've meant a tow and most of the morning gone. He mentioned a figure he'd been quoted for a spare key a year earlier. I didn't say anything. He already knew.
