2002 Porsche 911 Remote Flip Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
I got a call at 6:30 in the morning from a pilot sitting in a parking lot near Moorpark. He had a 2002 Porsche 911 and a preflight check he couldn't skip. The flip key remote was dead, the doors weren't responding, and the car wasn't going anywhere.
I was rolling through Mountain Meadows inside 20 minutes.
The door came open mechanically, the way it's supposed to when you work the lock correctly. Once inside, I pulled up the keyless entry module through the OBD port. What I found was a textbook post-battery-swap situation: his car battery had been replaced a couple weeks earlier and the module had quietly dropped the fob's registration. The fob battery itself was also low, which compounded things. Two problems that looked like one.
Swapped the fob battery, re-registered the key through the diagnostic port, and walked every function: lock, unlock, flip blade in the ignition, remote operation. All of it.
He was heading toward the hangar by 7:15. The dealer didn't even open until 8:00, and a Porsche dealer key job on a car like this would've meant a tow and most of the morning gone. He mentioned a figure he'd been quoted for a spare key a year earlier. I didn't say anything. He already knew.
