Second, the proximity antennas in the door handles and interior can develop faults independent of the key itself. If one antenna is weak or has a wiring issue, the car may not pick up the fob reliably. Third, if the fob was ever submerged, dropped hard, or sat in a hot car for a long time, the internal board may have a fault that doesn't show up visually. At that point the fob needs to be tested with diagnostic equipment to confirm whether the transponder is still broadcasting correctly. If the board is gone, we cut and program a replacement. If it's an antenna issue on the car side, that's a different repair path and we'll tell you which direction you're looking at before we start any work.

Can I buy a fob online and just have it programmed to my 2012 911?
