A couple out near Spring Road area in Moorpark on a Friday night came out of a lounge around 10:15 to find their 2005 Porsche 911 not responding to the fob buttons. No lock chirp, no unlock, nothing. They figured the car was bricked there until Monday when a dealer could look at it.
They didn't realize the flip key still had a mechanical blade inside. You push the side button, the key flips out, and it opens the driver door the old-fashioned way. From there you insert the key and turn the ignition, and the passive ID46 chip handles the immobilizer handshake with the KESSY module regardless of the remote battery state. The car would have started all along.
I was about 15 minutes out with 997 flip key shells, CR2032 cells, and programming gear already loaded. Swapped the dead CR2032, cleaned the battery contacts in the fob housing, and re-synced the remote to the KESSY receiver through OBD so the lock and unlock buttons came back with full range. Tested all three buttons at distance, confirmed the immobilizer light on the dash cluster cleared on ignition, and the flat-six fired on the first turn.
They drove home that night instead of cabbing it and waiting through the weekend. The whole thing took less time than they spent debating whether to call a tow truck.
