Out in Peninsula Park in Oxnard, a guy flagged me down on a job I already had booked. Not for him. He was walking past while I was finishing up another car, saw the VVDI tools on the hood, and asked if I could handle a 2019 Porsche 911.
His smart key shell had cracked clean through at the key ring loop. Classic failure point on these car-shaped fobs. The blade still popped out fine, but the plastic around the lock button was separating and the circuit board was half exposed. He had been nursing it with tape for two weeks.
I pulled the internal board, the Hitag Pro transponder ribbon, and the CR2032 tray out of the broken housing and transferred everything into a new aftermarket shell. That ribbon connection is the part people mess up at home. If it shifts even slightly off the contact pads, the KESSY module throws "No key detected" and the car sits dead. I seated it clean, snapped the housing, and cut a fresh emergency blade on site.
Three clean starts, lock and unlock from both sides, trunk release, and range check from about forty feet down the sidewalk. Everything talked to the KESSY module like nothing happened.
He said he had called the Porsche dealer in the area and they quoted him a full replacement fob with a multi-week wait for ordering. He paid a fraction of that and walked back to his car ten minutes later.
