Got a call at 6:30 in the morning from a charter pilot over near The Collection at RiverPark in Oxnard. His 2009 Porsche 911 was sitting in a lot and completely dead to the key. No unlock, no start, nothing. He had a preflight check to run and could not wait for any dealer to open their doors.
I was on site in about 25 minutes. Used my HU66 Lishi to pick the driver door lock and get inside. Connected through OBD and pulled up the KESSY module. His remote flip key, the KR55WK45022, had a dead battery inside the fob. But the real issue was underneath that. His shop had replaced the car battery a few days earlier and the KESSY had dropped the key's registration during the power loss. Classic 997.2 behavior.
Swapped the fob battery, re-registered the Hitag2 transponder back to the KESSY through diagnostic, and then walked every function. Remote lock, remote unlock, flip blade in the door, push button start, trunk release. All good.
He was walking into the hangar by 7:15. Didn't say much, just a quick nod and he was moving.
The dealer route would have meant a tow, a wait, and a bill for a lot more. But honestly, I think the part that mattered to him was just not missing his morning.
