I got a call just after 6:30 in the morning from a private lot near the South Bank waterfront in Oxnard. The guy on the line was a charter pilot. He had a preflight check to get through and his 2009 Porsche 911 wasn't cooperating. The fob was dead, the car wouldn't unlock, and the dealer didn't open for another two and a half hours.

What I found made sense once I asked the right question: he'd had the car battery replaced about a week earlier at a shop in the area. That service had dropped the fob's registration from the module. The fob itself was fine once I swapped the coin cell. The re-enrollment through the diagnostic port took maybe fifteen minutes.
I walked every function before I packed up. Flip blade in the ignition, remote lock, remote unlock, panic. All of it. He confirmed everything on his end, grabbed his flight bag, and was heading toward the hangar by 7:15.
He mentioned what the dealer had quoted him for a replacement key on a previous car. He wasn't thrilled about that number. I just told him to call me next time before he calls them.
