There's a polo and equestrian complex near Wagon Wheel in Oxnard, and on a Saturday afternoon it draws a certain crowd. I pulled up to a 2014 Porsche 911 sitting in the lot while an event was still going. The owner had a dead fob, no backup key, and not a lot of patience for a long wait.
He told me he'd already tried a fresh CR2032. The fob blinked, the car woke up sometimes, and other times it just sat there. He figured the fob itself had failed. Possible, but not confirmed yet.

He watched me walk the full perimeter of the car running tests and asked why I was still going after the start worked. I told him one start doesn't tell you anything. Three starts and a full button check tells you the system is stable.
He said the dealer had quoted him a full key replacement without even diagnosing whether the fob itself had failed. We did it differently. Same parking lot, same afternoon, for way less than that quote.
