2005 Toyota RAV4 Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
The call came in from Mar Vista, over in Oxnard, on a Thursday afternoon. The owner of a 2005 Toyota RAV4 had his key snap in the ignition. Half the blade was stuck in the cylinder, the other half in his hand, and he had somewhere to be.
When I pulled up, he was standing outside the driver door looking at the broken half like it might reattach itself. He had already tried fishing it out with a pocket knife, which only pushed it a little deeper. I see that a lot.
I got the fragment out without tearing into the cylinder. Once the bore was clear, I decoded the lock, cut a replacement blade to match, and handled the transponder side through the diagnostic port. His original remote was still good, battery and all, so that stayed in his pocket. No reason to touch it.
The whole thing took under an hour from when I parked. He made his appointment. He mentioned what the dealer had quoted him for a similar job on a previous car, shook his head, and said he wished he had called a mobile guy first. I hear that a lot too.
