2015 Toyota RAV4 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Near the library in Samarkand, a guy flagged me down after a frustrating week with his 2015 RAV4. He'd already paid another locksmith for a new smart key. The key physically went in the pocket, the start button lit up, the engine cranked, and then it died in about two seconds flat every single time.
The other locksmith told him the problem was an internal module and walked away. Left him with a key that half-worked and a bill he'd already paid.
I've seen this before. Toyota's immobilizer enrollment has a timed security sequence built into it, a seed-and-key calculation that has to complete fully before the registration commits to permanent memory. If you rush it, skip a step, or your tool drops the session early, the system writes the key temporarily. It looks done on the tool screen. But it isn't done, and the car proves it two seconds after startup.
I connected through the OBD port, cleared the failed registration, and ran a clean reset with the full sequence. Watched the tool confirm the key was stored permanently, not just written. Then I did what you always do after: walked every button, checked the door handle touch unlock on both sides, and let the engine idle long enough to know the fuel wasn't cutting out.
The engine ran. No stall. He stood there with his arms crossed just waiting for it to die again, because that's what it had done all week.
It didn't die.
He asked what was different. I showed him the confirmation screen on the tool, the one that shows the key is permanently registered, not just attempted. That's the screen the first locksmith never saw.
The dealer, if he'd gone that route, would have quoted him significantly more and asked him to tow it in. He was already out money from the first attempt. Getting it right this time, on site, in Samarkand, was the only thing that made sense.
