That uses a short-range inductive path and bypasses the normal wireless read. If the car starts that way, the fob battery or its contacts are the likely culprit.

If neither works, the problem could be the fob's internal board, one of the vehicle's key antennas, or the registration between the fob and the vehicle's security system. That is the point where you stop guessing and call for a proper diagnosis. Replacing parts randomly gets expensive fast.

I bought a replacement fob online for my 2017 RAV4. Can I program it myself?

Dirt and moisture around the handle area can interfere with the sensor, so a thorough cleaning and retest is worth doing first. If it stays isolated to one door after that, the issue is in that door's hardware or wiring, not in your fob. That is a vehicle-side repair, not a key replacement.
