A woman near Santa Barbara Harbor had a 2011 RAV4 that was gaslighting her. It would start fine in the morning, no complaints. By evening, push-to-start would go dead. Dashboard just sat there showing "Key Not Detected." She thought the car had a wiring problem.

I pulled the fob apart on her hood. Ran it through my VVDI2 and read the chip. He had written a 4D-67 transponder profile into a car that runs Toyota's G-chip (80-bit) protocol on the TMS37126 immobilizer. That is a known failure pattern. The 4D chip can pass initial registration because the seed/key handshake partially completes, but Toyota's immobilizer runs a deeper rolling verification over multiple drive cycles. After a handful of starts, the ECU rejects it silently. No dash warning, no code stored. Just a dead start button one evening when you are not expecting it.
I programmed a new HYQ14AAB with the correct G-chip matched to her system, seated a fresh CR1632, and ran the full registration through the OBD port. Tested push-to-start, door handle touch-lock, touch-unlock, and the panic button.
The difference between a key that works and one that works for a week is the chip generation. I match it right the first time because coming back to redo someone else's shortcut is nobody's idea of a good day.
