A guy near the Omer Rains Bike Trail in Ventura lost his only Yaris key somewhere between the sand and the parking area. Looked for close to an hour, checked with people nearby, retraced his steps twice. Nothing. His 2011 Yaris was sitting in the lot with no way to open it.
I started with my TOY43 Lishi tool. The 2011 Yaris runs the standard Toyota TOY43 keyway, and the Lishi picks and decodes each wafer position inside the door cylinder so I get exact cut depths without the original blade. Took maybe eight minutes to read all ten wafers.
Once I had the mechanical side done, I cut a new remote head key blank on my mobile machine, then connected through the OBD-II port to reset the immobilizer ECU. On this generation Yaris, the 4D-67 transponder registration requires a timed seed-key handshake with the immobilizer module. Old key data gets wiped, new chip gets written in. After that I synced the three remote buttons: lock, unlock, panic.
He was sitting on a bench watching the whole thing. When the engine fired, he just sort of nodded and said "huh." Like he expected it to be harder than that.
The dealer would have meant a tow and a wait measured in days. This was about 50 minutes, start to finish, right there in the lot.
