Got a call around 2am from a guy in Ventura, over by Cross at Grant Park. His 2019 Yaris was sitting in the driveway, push-to-start, and the only fob he had was completely dead. Not weak battery dead. Dead dead. The car wouldn't see it at all.

Here's the thing most people don't know about this car: the 2019 Toyota Yaris is built on the Mazda DJ platform. Under the skin, the immobilizer talks Mazda, not Toyota. The smart key computer is Mitsubishi Electric, board designation TK49, and the security protocol runs through Mazda's system. That matters because the diagnostic approach is different from every other Toyota in the lineup.
I connected my Smart Pro to the OBD port and ran the Mazda-side AKL procedure. The tool reads the immobilizer seed from the TK49 module, calculates the password, and walks through key registration from scratch. His new WAZSKE13D01 fob was cut, programmed, and working in the driveway by 2:30am.
He kept pressing the start button like he didn't trust it yet. Then he locked it, unlocked it, popped the trunk, locked it again. The full ritual.
