A Yaris owner over in River Ridge Golf Course in Oxnard called me about a cracked smart key. The rubber button pad had worn through and the plastic shell had split along the back seam. The part number on hers was GJY9-67-5DY, which is the Mazda-sourced four-button proximity remote these cars use.
I moved the circuit board and chip into a new shell, seated a fresh CR2025, tested all four buttons, checked passive entry on both front handles, and ran the push-to-start twice. Then I cut a fresh emergency insert blade.
She kept looking at the new shell like she expected a catch. There was no catch. The expensive parts inside her old fob were never broken. She paid a fraction of what the dealer wanted for a full key replacement she did not need.
