Over near Arroyo Verde Park in Ventura, a guy flagged me down from the shoulder. Well, not flagged, he had already called. But he was standing outside his 2016 Yaris holding two pieces of key like a broken wishbone.

Toyota's TOY43 keyway on these third-gen Yaris sedans is narrow but predictable. Once the fragment cleared, I decoded all eight wafer positions from the cylinder itself, no guessing, no key code lookup needed.
Cut a fresh blade on my HPC machine, paired it with a new 4D-67 transponder shell, and programmed the chip through the OBD port. The whole immobilizer handshake took about ten seconds. His remote (HYQ12BBY, part number 89070-42660) was fine since it is a separate piece on these, not built into the key head. I just handed him back a working key.
His original ignition cylinder, untouched. No drill marks, no replacement parts, no dealer visit. He kept looking at the lock like he expected to see a scratch.
