1998 Chevrolet Blazer Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy in Ventura, over in the Thompson Boulevard district, had just picked up a used 1998 Blazer from a small lot off the main drag. Good truck, one key, one remote. The lot told him to get a spare on his own time.

He called the Chevy dealer first. They quoted him for a new KOBUT1BT remote and said he would need to bring the truck in for programming. Then they told him the wait was about a week out for the appointment. He called me and asked if I could do it faster.

I met him at his apartment that same afternoon. First thing I did was check his existing remote. The CR2032 was almost dead, which explained why he had to stand right next to the door to lock it. Swapped that out. Then I cut a duplicate mechanical key from his original using the B102 blank, which is the correct profile for this generation S-10 Blazer. No chip to clone because GM did not put a transponder in this key. The ignition security on these runs through the PassLock sensor in the steering column, and it reads the lock cylinder itself, not anything embedded in the key blade.

For the spare remote, I programmed a new KOBUT1BT using the standard GM reprogram sequence right there in the driver's seat. Took about two minutes once both remotes were in hand.

He went from one key and a half-dead remote to two full sets, done on site, for a fraction of what the dealer quoted.
