Got a call from someone parked near St. John's Regional Medical Center in Oxnard. She was visiting family inside and came back to a 2001 Blazer that would crank but not start, with the SECURITY light stuck on solid in the dash cluster.
She thought the remote was dead. Swapped the CR2032 herself in the parking lot, doors locked and unlocked fine, but the engine still would not catch. That is the classic PassLock II false alarm. I pulled up and plugged my scanner into the OBD-II port under the dash. The BCM had a B2960 code, which is the PassLock sensor signal out of range. The Hall-effect sensor in the ignition cylinder was sending a value the module did not recognize, so the fuel injection just stayed disabled.
I ran the PassLock relearn right there. Ten-minute security timer, key on, wait for the light to go off, cycle it three times. Then cleared the code. Engine fired up on the next turn like nothing happened.
She had already called the Chevy dealer before calling me. They wanted the truck towed in and quoted her a multi-day wait just to look at it. I had her driving in under 30 minutes, right there in the hospital lot, for a fraction of what they described.
