A Blazer owner near Carnegie Art Museum in Oxnard called about a cracked flip-style remote shell. The plastic had split right at the hinge and the B106 blade was wobbling every time she tried to start the truck.
She had already called the dealer. They quoted her for a complete new remote, cut and programmed. What nobody told her is that the circuit board inside was perfectly fine. The battery contacts were clean, the CR2032 tested good, and the remote still paired to the vehicle. Her problem was a housing that fatigued from years of pocket carry.
I see this cracking pattern constantly on GM flip-key remotes from that era. The plastic around the pivot pin just gives out.
I brought a replacement shell and a fresh B106 blank to her garage. Opened the old remote on the hood, moved the working board into the new housing, cut a blade to match using my B106 Lishi to decode the existing key first. Tested lock, unlock, panic. All three buttons responded on the first press. Blade went into the ignition smooth, Passlock accepted it, engine fired.
She kept the old cracked shell in case she ever wanted the spare board. The whole visit took about 20 minutes. No reprogramming needed because the electronics never changed, just the plastic around them. A new shell and a fresh-cut blade, done on site for a fraction of what the dealer wanted.
