2000 Chevrolet Cavalier Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A woman in Sea Air called about a 2000 Chevrolet Cavalier. She had lost her only remote and needed a replacement. A coworker told her to just go to the dealer, and she almost did.
She wanted to know if the remote could actually be replaced without a dealer visit. I told her yes, same day, right at her car.
When I got there, the ignition key was fine and the car started no problem. The remote was the only thing missing. I had the correct fob in my kit, cut the key blade to her vehicle, and walked through the programming sequence on site. On these older GM keyless remotes, there is an onboard programming mode you can enter through a sequence of ignition cycles combined with the door lock switch. No OBD port tool required for the remote itself on a car this age. A few button presses to confirm the fob learned in, and it was done.
She tested the lock and unlock from across the parking lot and that was basically it. The whole visit was short. She mentioned the dealer had quoted her a wait of a few days just to order the part. I had it with me.
That is usually how these older Cavalier calls go. Simple job, quick turnaround, and the owner did not have to leave Sea Air.
