2002 Chevrolet Cavalier
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2002 Chevrolet Cavalier Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from South Bank in Oxnard, a guy who had just bought a used 2002 Cavalier and found a single fob in the center console that did nothing. He assumed it was the wrong remote from a different car. He had been unlocking by key for three months and finally got tired of it.

When I pulled up, I popped the fob open right there in his driveway. The CR2032 inside was so corroded around the edges it had stopped making contact entirely. Swapped the battery, tested range, and it still would not respond. The fob had either been dropped or gotten wet at some point because one of the contact points on the board was oxidized.

I had the correct replacement fob in the van, matched to the factory FCC ID for this application. Ran the onboard sequence using the door lock cylinder, got the system to accept the new remote, and walked every button before I packed up. Lock, unlock, and both remaining buttons, all confirmed working from across the parking lot.

He looked at it like he had been robbed for three months, which, in a way, he had been. He just needed the right fob and someone who knew the sequence. The dealer would have had him schedule an appointment and probably quoted him a number that made the whole thing feel like a bigger deal than it was. This was done before his lunch break ended, for a fraction of that.
