2001 Chevrolet Cavalier
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2001 Chevrolet Cavalier Remote Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Near Silver Strand, I got a call from an older couple who had one key and one remote for their 2001 Cavalier. They were not panicking yet, but they were close. The remote had gotten flaky over the past few weeks and they wanted a spare set before the whole thing gave out on them.

The part they mentioned almost as a side note was that neither of them drove on the freeway anymore. The dealer was twenty minutes of highway away. That was not going to happen.

I came to them that morning. The car was parked in the driveway. I decoded the lock and cut a spare key blade, then moved to the remote. Their existing fob, the factory unit with the dealer part number on the back, still had the original battery in it. I swapped the CR2032, confirmed the contacts were clean, and then programmed a second remote to the car so both fobs were active and on the same system.

I walked them through the battery check before I packed up. Not the whole speech, just enough so they would recognize when it was time again.

They did not have to arrange a ride, sit in a waiting room, or hand the car over to anyone. Both keys were in their hands before lunch, for a fraction of what the dealer had quoted for a single fob, not counting the logistics of actually getting there.
