2001 Chevrolet Venture
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: How do I know you are not a scam locksmith?

Ask for the license number before anyone rolls. In California, every locksmith is required to be licensed through BSIS and has to give you that number on request. Ask for a written estimate for your exact vehicle before work starts. Scam operations quote one number on the phone and a very different number once they are in your driveway.

Q: Will the replacement key work exactly like my original?

Yes. The key blade gets cut to your lock, the transponder gets programmed so the immobilizer recognizes it, and we test ignition start on site before we leave. On the Venture, the remote fob is separate from the key, so if you also need a fob replaced or paired, that is a different piece of the job. We confirm what you need when you call and cover it all in one visit. Nothing gets handed to you untested.

Q: My 2001 Venture starts then immediately dies and the security light comes on. Is the key the problem?

That pattern, starts then stalls with the security light on, is a classic sign that the immobilizer did not recognize the transponder chip on the first crank cycle. The system allows a brief start then cuts fuel when it cannot confirm the key. A few things can cause this. The transponder chip inside the key head can fail over time. A worn or cracked key head that lets the chip shift position is another common one on vehicles this age.

Q: I bought a replacement key blank online. Can you just program it for my Venture?

Depends on the blank. The 2001 Venture uses a specific transponder key, and not every aftermarket blank carries the right chip. If the blank is correct, yes, we can cut and program it. If it is the wrong chip type or a plain non-transponder blank, it will not work as an ignition key no matter what. Bring it along and I can check it before the job starts. If it is not usable, we carry the right blanks.

2001 Chevrolet Venture Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

A guy from the Wildwood area of Thousand Oaks called me on a Saturday afternoon. He had pulled into a parking lot, tried to get back in the car, and the key just stopped working. No warning, no gradual weirdness. Turned the ignition and the Venture cranked but would not fire. Security light sitting solid on the dash.

He had already tried the obvious stuff, pulled the key out, reinserted it, tried again. Same result every time. He figured the key was dead and he needed a new one cut.

I showed up with the van, popped the hood, and the battery terminals were clean. The key blade looked fine. No visible damage, no worn-down cuts. But the transponder chip was not communicating the way it should. The immobilizer was seeing the key as unrecognized.

I cut a fresh replacement key to match the lock, programmed the transponder through the OBD port, and ran the security relearn. One timed cycle, key in, wait, engine turns over. First try.

He had been ready to call a tow truck and spend the rest of the weekend dealing with a dealership. He was back on the road in well under an hour. For him it felt like a disaster. For me it was a familiar Saturday job.

Chevrolet Venture Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

Are you licensed and insured to work on Chevrolet vehicles?▼

Yes. EZ Car Keyz is licensed through the California Bureau of Security and Investigative Services, which is the state agency that regulates locksmiths. We carry full liability insurance. On a vehicle like the 2001 Venture, the transponder programming goes through the OBD port and the immobilizer relearn is a timed security procedure. You want someone credentialed handling that, not a pop-up locksmith with a generic key cutter and no programming capability.
