A fleet dispatcher for a plumbing company out in the Westlake Village area of Thousand Oaks had been fighting her 2013 Dodge Charger for weeks. Every morning, same routine: slide in, hit the start button, get "Key Fob Not Detected" on the EVIC display. She'd hold the FOBIK right against the start button, press again, and it would finally catch. Sometimes it took three or four tries.
She called the dealer. They told her to bring it in, but the earliest opening was two and a half weeks out. In the meantime, the car got worse. One morning it flat refused.
When I got there, I pulled the FOBIK apart on her dashboard. The CR2032 was original, corroded on one contact pad. But that wasn't the whole story. I connected my ACDP to the OBD port and pulled the WIN module data. Turns out this car had gone through Recall P57, which means the WIN module (part number 56046753AH on the replacement side) had been reflashed and owner self-add was locked out. The previous dealer visit had registered only one FOBIK. Her spare was never re-paired after the recall work.
I cleaned the battery contacts, seated a fresh CR2032, and re-registered both FOBIKs to the WIN module. Tested the start button, the remote start, the lock and unlock range from 40 feet out. All five buttons on each fob, both fobs.
She told me she almost bought a whole new fob online. Would have shown up unprogrammed and useless without the right tool to pair it.
