The call came from Sapwi Trails Community Park in Thousand Oaks. A dad coaching his kid's soccer practice locked his 2022 Charger with the engine running to keep the AC on. His five-year-old hit the door lock button from inside.
Smart keys are supposed to prevent this. The M3M-40821302 fob was sitting on the driver seat, doors locked, engine purring. The proximity sensor should have kept the doors unlocked with the fob inside, but something glitched.
I decoded the driver door lock using a CW-14 pick to read the wafer depths without drilling. Seven cuts gave me the mechanical blade pattern. Cut a new emergency key blank, then worked the door open without damage. Once inside, I plugged into the OBD port, bypassed the SGM module, and programmed a fresh fob through the RF Hub.
The dad watched me test all five buttons: lock, unlock, trunk, panic, and remote start. His original fob still worked too. I just added a spare to prevent future lockouts.
The dealer wanted him to tow it in and wait three days. Their quote started at "several hundred" before they'd even look at it. We handled everything in the parking lot in under an hour for a fraction of their estimate.
