Got a call from a woman over in the Dos Vientos neighborhood in Thousand Oaks. Her 2010 F-250 key was falling apart. The shell had cracked right at the blade pivot, and the two halves were being held together by habit and hope. She said she'd been squeezing it shut every time she turned the ignition.
She had already gone to the Ford dealer. They told her the only fix was a full replacement key, cut and programmed, and quoted her a wait of several days because the blank had to be ordered. No loaner, no workaround. Just "leave it or tow it back."
I met her in her driveway with replacement OUCD6000022 shells, my H75 Lishi pick and decoder, and a fresh CR2032. Popped the old shell open on the hood so she could see. The circuit board and 4D/63 transponder chip inside were perfectly fine. No corrosion, no cracked solder joints. The remote buttons still had good contact pads. It was purely a housing problem.
Swapped the guts into a new shell, cut a fresh H75 blade matched to her existing key, snapped it together, and tested lock, unlock, and trunk. Then started the truck twice to make sure the PATS handshake was clean. No theft light flash on the dash.
She watched the whole thing take about twenty minutes and kept looking at the cracked old shell like she couldn't believe that was the whole issue. Paid a fraction of what the dealer wanted, and she never had to leave her driveway.
