2013 Ford F-250 Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Out in Rancho Conejo, I pulled up to a 2013 F-250 sitting in a driveway. The owner had been using his only key for years and it finally let him down, not all at once, just slowly. Remote stopped working at any real distance a few months back. Then one morning the truck threw a key warning on the dash and he had to cycle the ignition twice before it cleared and started. He figured it was a dealer problem and braced himself.

Clean the clip, fresh CR2032, close it up. Remote came back full strength on the first test.

The ignition concern was the part worth taking seriously. I ran a quick check through the diagnostic port. The transponder in the key was reading fine. What he had been calling a "key problem" was almost certainly just the dying battery creating just enough interference to make the system hesitant. After the fresh cell, the truck started clean every time, no cycling, no hesitation.

He still wanted a spare cut and programmed, which was the smart call. We did that on-site, tested both keys start to finish, and he had two working remote head keys inside an hour. The dealer had been in the back of his mind the whole time, but by the time we were done, he mentioned the dealer almost as an afterthought.
