Got a call from a guy in Montecito, up in Upper Village, standing next to his 2003 Honda Pilot with half a key in his hand and the other half stuck in the ignition. The blade snapped clean.
He had already called someone else. That locksmith told him the ignition cylinder needed to be drilled out and replaced, meaning a new cylinder, new keys, the whole deal. He didn't love the sound of that, so he called me.
I pulled up and used my HO01 Lishi to grab the broken fragment out of the ignition without touching the wafer surfaces inside. Once the piece was out, I decoded each wafer position right there, which gave me exact cut depths for a fresh HD111-PT blank without needing the original key or a key code lookup.
His Pilot had the typical first-gen setup: standalone transponder key with the Megamos 13 chip, separate OUCG8D-344H-A remote fob clipped to the ring. I cut the new blade off the decode, then programmed the ID13 chip through the OBD port. Engine fired right up. Tested all the doors, the remote lock and unlock, panic button.
His original ignition cylinder works with the new key exactly the way it worked before the snap. No drilling, no replacement parts, no second trip to anyone. He just drove home.
