I got a call from someone living near the coast in Isla Vista, which puts me maybe ten minutes out of Goleta proper. She was a grad student, had one key for her 2013 Pilot, and it had been sitting on her dresser for a week not doing much. She figured the battery had finally given out. Swapped the CR1616 herself, same result: doors not responding, fob felt dead.
When I got there, the key would still turn in the ignition and the car would start. That told me the transponder side of the remote head key was fine. The remote side was the problem.
