2011 Honda Pilot Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
Near the Goleta Valley Community Center, a couple flagged me down from their street parking spot next to their 2011 Pilot. One key their whole ownership. Bought the car used, always meant to get a spare, never did.
The remote head key had cracked at the blade pivot. When they tried the door, the blade snapped clean off inside the lock cylinder. Remote head in one hand, broken blade stuck in the door. Zero working keys, no way in, no way to start it.
The chip inside the cracked housing was still intact, a PCF7961 Hitag2, reading clean. I cloned the transponder data off it with my VVDI2 instead of running a full all-keys-lost reset through the OBD port. That alone saved a good chunk of time. Extracted the blade fragment from the lock, decoded the wafers, and cut two fresh keys on the HPC1200. Rebuilt the remote into a new KR55WK49308 shell with the cloned chip seated inside.
I held the old cracked housing up so they could see the chip was physically fine, just living in a destroyed case. Showed them how the pivot point wears thin over the years, especially on keys that ride in a heavy keychain.
Forty minutes, two working keys. They went from locked out to having a backup for the first time since they bought the car. The whole thing cost a fraction of what the dealer quoted them over the phone.
