2011 Honda Pilot Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

I got a call from a couple parked on a side street in Old Town Goleta. They'd bought their 2011 Pilot used a few years back, came with one key, always meant to get a spare, never did. That's the story I hear constantly.

The blade had cracked at the pivot where it meets the fob body - a known weak point on these remote head keys when they get worked hard over years. They'd gone to unlock the door and it snapped. Blade stuck in the lock cylinder, fob head in one hand, and zero working keys.

First thing I did was extract the blade fragment from the door lock. Clean extraction, no damage to the cylinder. Then I decoded the lock to get the cut depth, so I could cut fresh blades without needing the original.

Here's where it got interesting. The fob housing was cracked, but the transponder chip inside was still intact. I was able to pull the chip data from the damaged head rather than running a full all-keys-lost procedure. That saved a meaningful chunk of time and kept the cost down for them.

I cut two new blades, transferred the chip into a fresh shell, programmed and tested both keys on site. Locks, start, remote functions - everything confirmed before I left. They went from no working keys to two in about 40 minutes.

The dealer had already quoted them a number that made them wince. They called me instead, saved a good chunk, and finally had the spare they'd been putting off for three years.
