A home health aide in Ojai Arcade had her 2021 Pilot's key shell crack right at the loop. The buttons were wearing through the rubber too. Honda dealer quoted her a full replacement.
I met her in the driveway with replacement shells and my cutting gear. The KR5V44 smart fob was still working fine electronically. Just needed new housing.
These use a laser-cut HO01 blade, not the old edge-cut style. I popped the fob open right there on her hood. The A2C83666100 board and Honda E chip transferred straight into the fresh shell. Snapped it closed, tested all five buttons including the panic and remote start. Cut a new blade on my Condor XC-Mini Plus.
The interesting part was her reaction when I showed her the old circuit board. She thought the whole thing was trash because the plastic broke. Nope. The expensive bits were perfectly fine inside.
While I was there, I made her a spare too. Now she's got two working keys instead of one broken one. Total time in her driveway was maybe 25 minutes. She mentioned the dealer wanted her to drop it off for half a day. We got it sorted right there between her morning rounds and afternoon appointments.
