Programmed the remote through OBD, cycled all four buttons, tested the start. The whole thing took maybe 25 minutes.
He sat on the curb watching most of it. Once the engine turned over, he just exhaled and stared at the dash for a second like he was making sure it was real.
He drove home that night. The Honda dealer was closed anyway, and they would have needed a tow on top of the key work. The VIN is the single most useful thing you can give me when you call. It tells me the key type, the immobilizer generation, and exactly what to bring.
