2004 Honda Pilot Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A couple on Coast Village Road in Montecito flagged me down from their street parking spot. Not literally, they had already called, but they were standing next to their 2004 Pilot looking at two pieces of what used to be one key.
The blade had snapped clean off in the driver door lock. Remote head in one hand, metal fragment stuck in the cylinder. They bought the car used years ago with a single key and never got around to making a spare. That story is so common on first-gen Pilots I could set my watch by it.
The transponder chip inside the cracked OUCG8D-380H-A housing was still intact. I pulled the chip data with my VVDI2 and cloned it, which meant I could skip the full all-keys-lost reset through the immobilizer ECU. Extracted the broken blade fragment from the lock, decoded the wafers, and cut two fresh keys on the spot. Rebuilt the remote head into a new shell with the cloned ID13 chip seated inside.
I held up the old chip so they could see it. Tiny glass tube, completely fine. That little thing saved them real money because an all-keys-lost procedure on these takes longer and costs more.
Forty minutes, two working keys, done at the curb. They left with a spare this time. The dealer would have needed the car towed in first.
