2005 Infiniti Qx56
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

2005 Infiniti Qx56 Remote Head Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Mission Canyon is up in the hills above Santa Barbara, the kind of neighborhood where the roads get narrow and the driveways get steep. A guy called me from his property up there one morning. He had a 2005 QX56, one key to his name, and it was turning up nothing.

He had taken the family down to the Santa Barbara waterfront the evening before, and somewhere between the pier and the walk back, the key was gone. He had a spare in the house, he said. Except the spare turned out to be a house key that had been sharing a drawer with the fob for years. He had mixed them up.

He was stuck in his own driveway with a big truck and nowhere to go.

I drove up and got to work at the door with my pick tools, decoded the lock, and cut a fresh blade to match. Once I had the door open I connected through the OBD port and ran the Infiniti all-keys-lost sequence, which clears every previously registered key out of the system and enrolls the new one as primary. The factory fob ID on his old key was gone from the system the moment that process finished. The new remote head key went in, the engine turned over, and I sat with it a minute to confirm the remote functions were all talking to the truck.

He asked about a spare on the spot. Smart call. I cut and programmed a second one while I was there.

The dealer was not really part of the conversation. He had looked up the dealer quote before he called me and already knew where that was going. He said what I hear a lot: he just wanted someone who could come to him, that day, and actually fix it.
