Hope Ranch is quiet in a way that feels a little removed from Santa Barbara proper. Big lots, long driveways, the kind of neighborhood where you can stand next to a full-size SUV at ten in the morning and hear nothing but birds. That was the setting for this one.
The owner had been dealing with an intermittent issue for a couple of weeks before it became a real problem. The QX56 would occasionally not detect the fob when she walked up to the driver door, then it would work fine, then it wouldn't again. She figured it was the battery. She swapped it. Tested every door handle, the start system, and all four buttons standing at normal approach distance. Everything came back clean.
She didn't need a new fob, didn't need programming, didn't need a dealer appointment. Just a correct battery seated against a contact that was actually doing its job.
