2012 Infiniti Qx56
Key Replacement - Save vs Dealer in Ventura County

Q: Does Infiniti really require a tow to the dealer for key replacement?

They'll tell you to tow it in, yes, especially on an all-keys-lost situation. That's the dealer's process because they need the car in their bay to access the diagnostic port and work through the immobilizer registration. The tow is on you, the wait is on you, and the appointment slot is on their schedule, not yours. I do the same diagnostic work at the vehicle, wherever it's parked.

Q: What do I need to show you before you can make a key?

Valid photo ID and proof of ownership, either your registration or your title. I verify the VIN from the dash plate or the door jamb before I cut or program anything. Same documentation a dealer would ask for, done on site in a couple of minutes. No counter, no forms, no waiting room.

Q: I bought a replacement fob online. Can you just program it to my QX56?

Sometimes yes, sometimes it gets complicated. The 2012 QX56 fob registration goes through the OBD port using professional diagnostic equipment. There's no button sequence or ignition trick that works on this system, so you will need someone with the right tools regardless of where the fob came from. The catch with sourcing your own fob is that aftermarket blanks vary in quality, and some don't pair reliably even with the right equipment.

Q: One door handle stopped triggering touch unlock but the fob still starts the car. Is the key failing?

Almost certainly not. On the 2012 QX56, the touch-unlock sensors sit inside each door handle assembly and feed back to the body control module independently. If one handle stops responding while the others work fine and the start function is normal, the fob is doing its job. The issue is almost always isolated to that door: a dirty or worn touch sensor, a wiring connection at the handle, or a module input for that specific door.

2012 Infiniti Qx56 Smart Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional

Got a call one morning from a guy in Wilson, working out of his condo. He had a 2012 Infiniti QX56, one fob, and the kind of schedule that doesn't have a two-hour window for sitting at a dealership service counter.

He'd already called the dealer. They wanted him to bring the car in, schedule an appointment, and wait. He didn't have that kind of morning.

I pulled into his garage before his first video call of the day. The QX56 smart key system on these uses an integrated emergency blade inside the fob, and I decoded his door lock right at the vehicle to cut a matching spare blade, then went through the OBD port to register the new fob to the immobilizer. The whole job, including walking every button on both fobs and confirming touch-unlock on all four handles, ran about 30 minutes.

He was back upstairs before his calendar started. Paid a fraction of what the dealer quoted, never moved the car, never lost a morning.

That's the job. No drama, no tow, no appointment.

Infiniti Qx56 Mobile Service FAQ

Real costs, no dealer surprises

I'm locked out with no spare key. Can you come to me in Wilson?▼

Yes, that's exactly the call I take. If you're stuck in the Wilson area or anywhere in Oxnard, I come to the vehicle with the tools and key blanks on board. No tow, no waiting for a dealer appointment, no figuring out a ride. I can cut the emergency blade to get you into the car and then register a new fob through the diagnostic port on site.
