A guy near Lemonwood Park in Oxnard had been fighting his 2011 Infiniti QX56 ignition for weeks. Wiggling the key, forcing the turn, sometimes sitting there for a full minute waiting for it to cooperate. I drove out and looked at the ignition. The cylinder itself was fine. The problem was worn wafers inside the lock, which is textbook for this Nissan-family cylinder after years of use, especially with a heavy keychain. The wafers loosen up, the key catches on rotation, and the owner assumes the whole thing is dead.
I used my ACDP to pull the IMMO data from the BCM as a backup, then decoded the lock, swapped the worn wafers, and cut a fresh emergency blade matched to the repaired cylinder. His smart key, the CWTWB1U787, paired right back through the OBD port with no issues. I showed him the old wafers so he could see exactly where the wear was.
Ignition turns smooth now and the blade slides in clean. He kept every part that was still working and only replaced what was actually broken. Saved a good chunk over the dealer route.
