A mountain biker near Gardens of the World in Thousand Oaks texted me a GPS pin from a fire road pullout. His 2007 WRX was sitting in the dirt. The key was gone, somewhere on a trail he had no interest in hiking twice.
No dealer was going to send a truck out there. And even if they did, Subaru dealers in this area quote tow-plus-key jobs that take days once the VIN-matched blank ships in. His car was not moving on its own.
I loaded DAT17 picks, a 4D-62 chip blank, and my Lishi SIP22 decoder. Drove to his pin. The pullout was gravel and dust and one very frustrated guy sitting on a tailgate that was not his.
I decoded the sidebar wafers through the driver door, then cut the SUB-120 blank on my mobile key machine right on the hood. Cloned the 4D-62 transponder through the OBD port using the ACDP mini, wrote the new chip to the immobilizer module, and tested the start.
The WRX fired up in that dirt lot. He sat in the driver seat for a second like he was checking if it was real.
Whole thing ran about 50 minutes from my arrival to a working key in his hand. A fraction of what the dealer route would have cost, and nobody had to tow anything off a fire road.
