The call came from Indian Hills Ridge area. Guy's 2024 WRX wouldn't detect his only smart key after a DIY battery change.
He'd already tried the obvious stuff. New CR2032, cleaning the contacts, holding the fob against the start button. The car would start if he held the key right on the button, but the doors wouldn't lock or unlock remotely. Zero response from any of the four buttons.

Still nothing. That's when I checked for TSB 16-124-21R, which covers keyless module reflashes for this exact symptom pattern. The module needed a software update through the OBD port, not just a battery fix.
Twenty minutes later, after the reflash completed, all four buttons worked from across the driveway. Touch unlock on the door handles came back too. He kept testing it like he didn't believe it would keep working.
