A shade tree mechanic near Camarillo Village Square snapped his key in the ignition of his 2017 WRX at about 6:30 in the morning. Half the blade stuck in the cylinder, the other half in his hand. He was parked by the auto parts store, hood up, already elbow deep in a brake job when it happened.
I got there and used my HO01 Lishi to pull the broken piece out without chewing up the wafers. Once the fragment was clear, I decoded the lock right off the cylinder. The 2017 WRX base and Premium use a side-milled NSN14 blade with a Texas Crypto 128-bit G-chip for immobilizer authentication. His separate remote fob, the HYQ14AHC, was clipped to his belt loop and perfectly fine, so I only needed to cut and program a new transponder blade.
Cut the blank to the decoded readings, seated a G-chip, connected to the OBD port, and ran the registration through the BIU. It accepted on the first cycle. No errors, no retries.
He watched the whole thing from about two feet away, still holding the broken half like he was going to need it for evidence. When the engine turned over clean, he just nodded and went back to his brake pads.
Under an hour, start to finish. The dealer quoted him days and a tow. He paid a fraction of what they wanted and never left his parking spot.
