2013 Subaru WRX Transponder Key Replacement - Fast, Affordable & Professional
A graphic novelist up in the Springville neighborhood in Camarillo called me because his 2013 WRX was stuck on one of those steep, narrow hillside streets with no turnout. Tow truck wouldn't go up there. Dealer told him he'd need to get the car to them first. He couldn't, because the only key he had was cracked at the bow and the transponder chip inside had shifted enough to kill the read.
I parked at the bottom of the hill and walked up with my bag and the VVDI2.
His WRX is the third-gen Impreza platform, no push-button start, just the standard G chip immobilizer system. The original key was a DAT17 side-mill, SUB80 profile, with the TK5561A transponder buried in the plastic head. The chip was still alive, just sitting crooked from the crack. I cloned the transponder data onto a fresh G chip, decoded the cuts from his existing blade, and milled a new DAT17 right there on the portable machine.
Tested it in the ignition. Immobilizer light on the dash flickered once and went out, engine turned over clean. He stood there watching the tach settle at idle like he expected it to stall.
His car never had to move. The whole thing took maybe 25 minutes, and it cost him a fraction of what the dealer quoted just for the appointment.
