Over in the Royal/Kadota area of Simi Valley, I got a call from a guy at an alignment shop. He wasn't there for alignment work anymore. He was stranded.
Another locksmith had tried to replace his smart key on his 2025 WRX. Partway through the programming sequence, the vehicle battery voltage dropped. The security module went into a fault state and stopped responding. The first locksmith packed up and left. The alignment shop had his number from a previous visit and called me.
When I got there, the car wouldn't accept any new key registration attempts. The module was sitting in a lockout condition from the interrupted sequence. Start to finish it was about an hour and a half, maybe a little more. His alternative was a flatbed tow to the dealer, a multi-day wait, and a bill that would have been a good chunk more than what he paid me. He was back on the road before the alignment shop closed for the day.
