Got called to Bridle Path neighborhood in Simi Valley for a 2025 WRX that wouldn't recognize its only smart key. Owner tried the usual: new CR2032, cleaned the contacts, even held the fob against the start button like the manual says.

I pulled codes first. P1603 stored, plus U0214 for lost communication with the remote keyless entry module. The HYQ14AKB fob tested fine on my frequency counter at 433.92 MHz. Problem was the car side.
Found the issue when I checked the antenna amplifier behind the driver's kick panel. The connector had backed out just enough to break contact. Common on performance cars that see spirited driving. Clicked it back in, cleared codes, and the smart system came back to life.
The dealer quoted him three days minimum because they'd need to order the whole smart key module assembly as their standard fix. Part alone runs 88281-VA120 at dealer pricing. We fixed it in 40 minutes with a connector reseat. He saved a good chunk and kept his weekend plans.
