Got a call from a guy at a trailhead pullout above Moorpark, near the Campus Hills area. He'd hiked one of the fire roads and somewhere between the ridge and the car his only key to a 2004 BMW 7 Series disappeared. No spare. No dealer anywhere close. No cell signal at the overlook either. He ended up hiking down to a gas station off the 23 just to call me.
I loaded up knowing exactly what I was walking into. E65, CAS1 module, HU92 keyway, LX8766S proximity fob. All-keys-lost on these means pulling the CAS module from behind the glove box to bench-read the ISN data with my ACDP programmer. That's the anti-theft seed value the CAS and DME share. Without it, a new key is just a piece of plastic.
I drove up the dirt road, found his 745Li sitting in a gravel pullout, and got to work on the hood of my van. Removed the CAS, read the module on the bench, decoded the HU92 lock data, and laser-cut a fresh blade on site. Built the new smart key, wrote it to the CAS, synced the DME, reinstalled everything.
He sat on a rock and watched the whole thing. When the engine turned over in that dirt pullout, same spot it had been sitting all morning, he just looked at the dash for a second like he didn't trust it. Then he drove home.
No flatbed. No tow to a dealer. Just the job, done on a mountain.
