Got a call from a woman in the Pleasant Valley area of Oxnard. She was at the Trader Joe's parking lot with her 2019 BMW 7 Series, down to her last working key and wanting a spare before that became zero keys.
She had already called the dealer. They told her VIN-matched key, special order, come back when it arrives, then another appointment for programming. She said the whole thing sounded like two to three weeks and a big number she didn't love. Her neighbor had used me on an X5 and passed along my info.
I pulled up with my Smart Pro and got to work on the BDC module security sequence. The G11 platform uses the BDC board (part number references vary, but it's the LEAR-manufactured unit behind the glove box) instead of the older CAS or FEM setups from earlier generations. The N5F-ID21A fob has a 49 chip (Hitag Pro, PCF7953) inside, and the BDC validates it through an encrypted challenge-response before it will let the engine fire.
Cut the emergency HU92 blade, paired the fob to the BDC, tested all four buttons, checked passive entry on both front doors and the trunk, then had her do a start cycle.
She stood there watching the dash come alive and just said, "That's it?" Like she was waiting for something harder to go wrong.
One visit. About 35 minutes. A fraction of what the dealer quoted, and she never had to leave that parking lot.
